While the Kingsholm is close to the town centre there is plenty of opportunity for walking, from gentle strolls, to rambles and serious day walks. Here is a taste of what is available. You will find more information at the Kingsholm.

Agatha Christie Mile

The renowned crime writer was born in Torquay in 1890. The Agatha Christie Mile is an easy walk which starts by the Tourist Information Office beside the Torquay harbour. Along the way commemorative plaques denote locations linked to the author.

South West Coast Path

The Kingsholm is minutes from the South West Coast Path. This national trail stretches around the coast for 630 miles (1014km) from Poole Harbour in Dorset to Minehead in Somerset. Within Torbay there is easy access to the path.

South West Coast Path: Kingsholm Tasters

From the Kingsholm you can follow a couple of short circular walks which will take you to beaches and cliffs with great views over inner and outer Torbay.

Alternatively you could walk a couple of hours following the South West Coast Path to the Babbacombe Cliff Railway, then catch a bus home.

Or take the ferry to Brixham follow the coast road past the one-time military hospital that is now the Berry Head Hotel and through trees to Berry Head with its Napoleonic fortifications (1793-1820). On the headland is probably Britain’s smallest, highest and deepest lighthouse.

John Musgrave Heritage Trail

Opened in March 2006, this 35 mile trail explores 40 of South Devon’s key heritage features and passes through varied countryside. The trail begins at Maidencombe and leads to Brixham. It links, among others, the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and the Totnes-Torbay Trail. The walk is divided into four sections, all easily accessible from the Kingsholm.

Dartmoor

A short car journey will bring you to the open spaces of Dartmoor. Even if you are not a serious walker it is worth getting out for a short walk around the Tors to experience this wide open space.
